Please let me know what to add to my list! It's not strictly just for Los Angeles either...
Tried and True Fun:
- Leonis Adobe Event Days: A heritage house and farm from the 1850's. Make a $5 donation and get a bagful of alfalfa to feed the animals. The Event days are the best buy for your money, a normal visit will last you 1/2 to 1 hour max but the events are good for a half-day of fun!
- Berry Picking and Pony Rides at Underwood Farm: A real, working farm with lots of activities for kids ages 1 and up! There's an entrance fee and then tickets for the rides, games, etc. The tickets can add up quick, but my husband and I bought a bundle (they never expire) and let Grace pick two activities- we'll use the rest later. We spent a lot of time picking juicy berries on the farm that we purchased and used later on ice-cream. Yummy!
- Kiddie Pool at Calabasas Community Swim Center: It's a nice, upscale outdoor community pool that only costs $3 a visit. The kiddie pool is nicely shaded by trees and heated, and is rarely over-crowded. The bad side...weekdays it's only open during prime nap time, so we have to wait for the weekends to go.
- Valley Cultural Center Concerts : These only happen during summer, but it's fun to bring a picnic dinner and rock out as a family. They get pretty crowded (the playground is insane) so be sure to come prepared with a wagon to bring your kids, meal and lawn chairs because you'll have to park blocks away or pay $10 for parking.
- Los Angeles Zoo : The only draw-back is that it opens at ten in the morning and the animals go down for bed at four. It can be hard to fit around nap times, but fun all the same!
- Commons Shopping Center : This is a fun half-hour to hour time killer. The pond has turtles and koi galore to watch and a few water fountains to splash in. Also great...Crumbs bakery for a mommy-treat! Plus it's a minute walk to the lovely Calabasas Library.
- Calabasas Library Story Time: Check for times, and be sure to come 15 minutes early or you won't get a seat. Stories and songs followed with stickers is perfect for any toddler who isn't overly squirmy.
- And If you can get out there, I'd highly recommend the Thousand Oaks story time- it's the best I've ever been to and then they bring out toys for 15 minutes of free play after songs and reading.
